Spooky Season Stitch-Along & Eloise Socks CAL

8/10/2021

Eek - it's the most wonderful time of the year! The Spooky Season Stitch-Along (#SpookySeasonSAL on Instagram and Facebook) is a dedicated space for stitchers of all skill levels to celebrate the cozy, pumpkin-loving magic of October with exclusive hand-dyed yarn by talented indie dyers paired with featured crochet and knit patterns.

The "theme" of each year's Spooky Season SAL will vary, but for our very first year, we'll be focusing on handmade socks (Socktober, anyone?). Socks aren't your thing? No worries - you can still share your finished objects using the featured #SpookySeasonSAL yarn the entire month of October for a chance to win some sweet treats!

Who are the guest dyers this year?

For our inaugural Spooky Season Stitch-Along, I'm beyond chuffed to announce that our guest dyers are Robyn of Teeny Button Studio and Lauren of Granite State Yarns. Robyn captured the sweet, multicolored magic of Halloween with her colorway Candy  Bucket, and Lauren brought my pastel dreams to life with this sock set in All Hallow's Eve and Pumpkin!

Pre-orders for both colorways open on August 14 in each dyer's online shop. The goal is for all orders to be shipped or in your hands by October 1 so that you're ready to go!

What are the featured knit and crochet patterns?

The featured patterns will vary each year, and I'm thrilled to share that the two featured patterns for 2021 are my very own Eloise Socks (crochet pattern) and the Arethusa Falls Socks (knit pattern) by Granite State Yarns. As this is a Spooky Season Stitch-Along, participants are encouraged to select their favorite pattern to stitch during the month of October (you could also stitch both!).

Each pattern is a paid pattern, available in our respective Etsy shops.

How do I participate in the Spooky Season Stitch-Along?

There are two primary ways for you to join in the spooky fun:

  • Purchase one (or both) of the featured colorways by Teeny Button Studio and/or Granite State Yarns - you can make anything using these yarns and your participation will be counted!
  • Purchase one (or both) of the featured patterns by myself (Stitchery & Co.) and/or Granite State Yarns - you can use any yarn for these patterns to participate (yes, you're welcome to stash bust!)
In order for your participation to be counted for the Spooky Season Stitch-Along giveaways (yes, there will be several!), please make sure to do the following:
  • Tag me (@allisonmclark) on Instagram in your stories and grid posts
  • Use the hashtag #SpookySeasonSAL on Instagram in your stories and grid posts

The giveaways will only be happening on Instagram, so you must tag me and use the #SpookySeasonSAL hashtag so that I'm able to see your entries.

What are the Spooky Season Stitch-Along giveaways?

There will be three giveaways during the Spooky Season Stitch-Along, each of which will reward works-in-progress AND finished objects completed during the month of October. Recipients will be selected via random lottery at the end of the month (follow along on Instagram for the exact date, TBD), so it's super important you tag me in your Instagram posts! The prizes will vary, but you can expect to see some full-size hand-dyed hanks of yarn from the featured dyers, handcrafted sock soap, hard enamel pins perfect for dressing up project bags, and other sweet treats. You're welcome to begin posting your #SpookySeasonSAL projects any time you like - before October 1 is perfectly okay! (I also cannot wait to stitch some Halloween-inspired items!)

Will you host a crochet along for your Eloise Socks?

This answer is a little tricky: yes and no. Yes, I'll be hosting a (free) relaxed, stitch-at-your-own-pace crochet along on Instagram via the hashtag #StitcheryandCoCAL. This hashtag will be the dedicated space for you to share your progress on your Eloise Socks, and for me to cheer you on! Any questions regarding the pattern should be communicated to me via Etsy messages (not Instagram). There will be no private group for this CAL, and I will not be hosting a virtual crochet session for participants.

That said, I will be hosting a separate, dedicated giveaway specific to participants in the Eloise Socks CAL on Instagram! (This is in addition to the three Spooky Season Stitch-Along giveaways described above.) You may use any yarn for the Eloise Socks CAL, *but* participants who use a featured Spooky Season Stitch-Along colorway will receive an extra entry!

(I really wish I had the bandwidth to host a full-on private CAL group in October, but sadly, I'll be attending a close family member's funeral out of state and want to ensure I give myself the space to grieve appropriately. I really appreciate your understanding!)

Are there any other items available for sale in connection with the Spooky Season Stitch-Along?

Yep, you betcha! My Etsy shop will have an update on August 28 with a range of ready-to-ship items to help you prepare for the Spooky Season Stitch-Along and get you in the wholesome Halloween spirit. Featured items include my handcrafted sock soap and wool wash, as well as hard enamel pins perfect for dressing up your project bag - plus a few surprises!

How will you select the theme and featured dyers and/or patterns for next year?

Although I haven't selected the theme for 2022 just yet, I have a few ideas in mind! The Spooky Season Stitch-Along is intentionally left broad in scope, so perhaps next year we'll integrate crochet and knit with embroidery and cross stitch. If you'd like to nominate yourself or a maker you admire as a contributor, please email me at hello[at]stitcheryandco.com with "2022 Spooky Season Stitch-Along" in the subject line. For our inaugural year, I simply put an open call on Instagram for featured patterns and dyers - and am so pleased Robyn and Lauren responded with enthusiasm!
