The Eloise Socks | Crochet Pattern

10/09/2021

The Eloise Socks crochet pattern is my take on cozy, rollover ribbed socks perfect for cooler temperatures and lounging around the house. This beginner-friendly crochet pattern is a great steppingstone for those relatively new to crochet, as it uses a combination of basic stitches with slightly more advanced techniques, simple shaping, easy (and optional) color changes, and features an afterthought-style heel. The sock itself is crocheted from the toe up.

About the Pattern

This pattern is written “recipe-style,” meaning that you will create your own sock recipe by recording the number of stitches, rounds, and rows you crochet for each section of the sock. While this may seem daunting, fear not – my instructions will carefully guide you through each step so you can customize this pattern to your individual foot size. In the pattern, I provide three starting sizes (Adult Small, Medium, and Large) to begin the Toe Box, and you will then be tailoring the socks’ dimensions to your feet.

My favorite yarns to use for this sock pattern are fingering or sock weight yarns with a blend of Superwash Merino Wool and Nylon. Shelly Diaz of Daisy Stitch Co has many beautiful hand-dyed fingering weight yarns perfect for making socks, and in the photo tutorial included in this pattern you will see that I combined two of her colorways: I used the color Icing on the Cake for the contrast Toe Box and Heel, and the color Strawberry for the body of the sock and Ribbing.

What's in the pattern?

In this PDF pattern, you will find:

  • A detailed 63-page tutorial with 135 step-by-step color photos that teach you exactly how to crochet this sock set (including photos showing you where to place your hook and stitches!)
  • Instructions provided for crocheting all sections of the sock, including tips for washing, blocking, and sewing in all ends
  • A comprehensive supply list
  • Tips that are written as if I am teaching a good friend, so you will encounter minimal abbreviations or crochet jargon
  • Instructions written in US terms

What stitches should I know?

Although the instructions are very detailed, I recommend you be familiar with the following stitches that are used in this sock set:

  • Foundation chain single crochet stitches
  • Single crochet stitches
  • Slip stitches
  • Half double crochet stitches

What sizes does this crochet pattern include?

While this pattern is fully customizable, I provide three suggested starting sizes to begin your sock: Adult Small (foot circumference 8 inches and under), Medium (8-9 inches), and Large (9-10 inches). These sizes are based on your foot circumference, not foot length or shoe size.

Am I able to sell items I make from this pattern?
